Mayor’s Message – Pleasanton

Greetings from the Mayor’s office: I hope this column finds you and your family in good health and with a positive attitude. This column finds me with a bit of sadness as I was told that our Fire Chief Chuck Garris is retiring. His retirement is effective April 30. Chief Garris has served the people of Pleasanton and this county for over 40 years. I remember working as a Trooper and being invited to the Pleasanton Fire Station on Hunt St. to give safety briefings and this was back in the late 1990s. Chief Garris has done a wonderful job and has played a major role in making the PFD what it is today. We wish him and Lucy the very best in their retirement and say “thank you.” And I will add that most of the forty years was unpaid and as a volunteer. Certainly quite a legacy.

The Governor spoke on Monday of this week and Phase I of reopening Texas begins this Friday. Restaurants, retail stores, movie theaters, malls, museums, and libraries can reopen with 25% capacity and restrictions. This only refers to restaurants that DO NOT post a 51% sign. Churches and places of worship may open with restrictions. Phase II will begin on May 18 for bars, barber shops, hair salons and bowling alleys. This all depends on the spread of COVID-19 and whether this State has an increase in cases as we reopen. So, let’s continue social distancing, wearing of masks, avoiding large gatherings, sanitizing the best we can, and continue to follow CDC recommendations. As far as the Pleasanton City Park, we are looking at either May 15 or June 1, all depending on whether we have an increase in cases. Let’s continue to work hard to do what we can to beat this virus. Until next week … best regards and good health.
