Mayor’s Message – Pleasanton

The city is in the process of wrapping up calendar year 2021. During this time of year, we traditionally go to one meeting a month. The reason is because we have less business to process and it is more of a planning phase and recap for the city. Over the next couple of months, we will have reports from volunteer and contracted organizations. They will be reporting on what has been processed over the past calendar year. As always, I encourage you to come and understand what has transpired over the past calendar year. This is also the time of year when our financial audit starts. The audit starts in November and the presentation/ findings will be presented in February 2022. In addition, the city has several projects that we are continuing to plan. We are working on a Community Development Block Grant to assist in infrastructure for the east side of Pleasanton. We also are planning for renovations to the North Town and Downtown fire stations. We will also continue to plan for and implement security measures for City Hall. So if it seems like things are slowing down because we are reducing meetings, I can assure you that the city is busy.

Some fun things to talk about are our events from now until the end of the year. Today is the free Collaborative Career and Job Fair with Workforce Solutions Alamo and Coastal Bend College. It is held at the Civic Center, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. for high school students and 12:30-2:30 p.m. for the general public. Come check it out, it’s FREE! Tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 21, will be an open house at Coastal Bend College. The college open house will include meeting the faculty, touring the facility and programs available. On Halloween, we will have trick-or-treat at the park. It is a great opportunity for the community to come together and give our children a safe environment to enjoy All Hallows’ Eve. Plan to run in the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, details to follow, benefiting the Bountiful Blessings Food Pantry. The first Friday and Saturday of December is Merry on Main. This is our Christmas celebration and when we get together to light the tree at the park. Please plan to attend, I look forward to seeing you at one or all of these events.
