I hope everyone had a great Fourth of July weekend. I was lucky to spend it with family and friends, old and new. I also feel lucky that my job allows me to travel all over our great country. Because of my job, my availability has been questioned. Previously I had the same job, two kids in high school, two restaurants and I served as mayor. My kids are in college and I sold the restaurants. Now I just fly and serve as mayor. I have time.
This discussion leads me to talk about council availability. Each member has their unique situation. We have a great mix of people on the council from employed to retired. That being said, we all have different days and times we are available. There are several ways to reach your council member. Every council member has a city email address. Email is probably best for less urgent items or to convey information. The city secretary is available to help with questions that need council attention with more urgent issues. Below is a link to council members’ email and a phone number/ email for the city secretary. Because of the diverse schedules of the council members, the best ways to reach council is before or after a council meeting. We are all there.
If you have an issue that requires immediate attention, please contact the appropriate department first. The department heads and staff keep regular operating hours and should be ready to assist. This will usually give you the quickest attention. Know that council is more than willing to help resolve an issue, but council is a policy-making body. The day-to-day operation is performed by the city manager and staff. That being said, council can help with which direction to take to resolve issues and help with roadblocks. The city council, city manager and staff are constantly striving to provide better customer service. There are and will be times that we will exhaust our ability to assist, but we will work with you until then. So, please let us know what we can do to make your experience better. I hope this helps. Please contact me with any questions or concerns. If we don’t know about it we can’t help!
