I haven’t reported lately on my Monday afternoon citizens sessions at City Hall. Yes, I continue to meet with any Pleasanton resident on Monday’s from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. No appointment needed and we meet in the conference room which is to the right as you walk into City Hall. Unless I have a doctor’s appointment or it’s a holiday, I’m usually there. I have seen and listened to dozens and dozens of people over the last year and will continue with my “open door” policy.
Just had a question this past weekend from an individual that asked “Why would you want to sit there and listen to all those complaints.” In my previous career, one of the first things I learned was “there are certain skills a leader must have to progress their team forward to be effective and successful.” And one of those skills is being a good listener to both the good and the not-so-good. We are all better when we harness the brain power and energy of others. After all, if we are not improving, we’re likely getting worse. Even people with years of experience will tell you that listening and giving people a chance to speak is a valuable asset towards success. I have had some very good ideas brought forward in my sessions and some that are not-sogood. And I can safely say that the city of Pleasanton is improving and we will work hard to continue in this direction. Until next week…..best regards.
