Greetings from the Mayor’s office:
Statistics show that on the average, Texas is growing by some 200,000 people per year. Yes, I’m sure we have some leaving the State also, but that is a small percentage. And, yes, Pleasanton is continuing to grow by leaps and bounds and with this comes, what my father used to referred to as, “growing pains”. When I visit with some of our home builders, they tell me that they cannot build houses fast enough and the real estate market is a seller’s market with a quick turnover for most. All great news for the city and we continue to look into the future and vision what might be needed to continue growing.
The city has recently purchased several pieces of property and will be available for future use such as water wells, extension of the civic center and library, and with future plans for building a new Police Department and Justice Center and a walking park on Goodwin. Now, thus is all in the future, but, it’s good to have property available and ready when the time comes. These tracts of land are located on Goodwin St., Uvalde St., Bryant and Goodwin, and in the downtown area. With the help of our city staff, we were able to find funds to afford theses purchases. With the city continuing to grow, we must be ready to move forward when that time comes.
Just a couple of quick notes. I will be out of the office this Monday and will return for my afternoon sessions with the public on April 15. No column next week. This column will return on 4-17-19…….until then, best of life.
