Greetings from the Mayor’s office: We have already started working on next year’s city budget and I have several goals in mind. We are going to do our best to keep city taxes from increasing, as well as no water rate increases. We will continue our street maintenance program and the following streets are targeted for re-paving: Oakhaven, Oak Valley, upper portion of Pulliam from Crestline south to Goodwin, and Adams Street from Bryant to US281. Some will be contracted out and others will be done in-house by city employees. Oakhaven is going to be one of the most expensive, if not the most expensive re-pave in the city due to its length, width, curbing, and infrastructure.
Another project we are looking to improve is our city animal shelter. Currently, we are in the process of filling two positions at the shelter with ladies that will work closely with the Atascosa Animal Allies and we will also begin a feral cat program. A special cage will be used to trap feral cats and they will be transported directly to a vet for spay or neuter, then vaccinated, and returned to the location where they were trapped. This particular program is being conducted in other cities and is successful.
A few other projects are on the drawing board, but, the money has got to be there. This summer we will nail down our final budget and see where we stand.
Until next week….have a great week…
