Greetings from the Mayor’s office: It is a beautiful time of the year and if you haven’t had the chance to either drive or walk through the downtown area after dark, I invite you to do so and experience the city’s Christmas lights and decorations. I think they are simply magical, especially at City Hall and in front of the Civic Center and Library. All the past years of holiday lighting in the downtown area have been special, however, this year is exceptional. Downtown businesses have also decorated for the season and it really puts a person in the mood for Christmas and allows all the citizens to enjoy.
I wanted to take the opportunity to thank those who are responsible for giving our downtown area the look of Christmas. Michael Cruz, Homer Cruz, Charlie Reyna, Josh Rodriguez, Marcos Hernandez, Willie Martinez, Chito Ramirez, as well as First Step Volunteer Center, Girls Soccer Team, Parks and Recs, Public Works and the VFW. A special recognition for these folks will be given this Thursday evening at our council meeting.
I had told City Manager Johnny Huizar that I wanted to “light up” the town square, Civic Center and Library, and the final product was more than I had expected. Again, thanks to all involved.
And thanks to you for taking the time to read this column and until next week….
