Mayor’s Message

Greetings from the Mayor’s office: This week, we will be gathering with family and friends to celebrate Thanksgiving. And Wednesday of this week is one of the most traveled days of the year, especially on our streets and highways. Some will travel far and others not so far and you can bet the highways will be congested to say the least. Thanksgiving is one of my most favorite holidays and before I retired, I hated to think that some drivers and passengers would not make it to their destinations because of being involved in a motor vehicle crash. So, I thought I would list some good driving tips to help you get to where you’re going safely:

-ALWAYS drive defensively

-try to get plenty of sleep before leaving and allow yourself plenty of time

-don’t allow yourself to be distracted, especially by your cell phone -wear your seat belt -obey the speed limit and NO alcoholic beverages -stay in the right lane unless passing

-try to travel during the day

-if caught in the rain be sure and slow down and watch your following distance

-and make sure the vehicle your driving is road worthy (good tires, including a spare tire, tire jack and tire tool, and your vehicle is mechanically sound)

We care about our citizens and we want you to be safe. And be sure and take a few moments to be thankful. Have a happy, healthy, safe Thanksgiving holiday.

Until next week…….best regards.
