Greetings from the Mayor’s Office: The month of October is upon us. Our city crews have been extremely busy repairing streets (potholes), cutting tall grass and trying to catch up on delays due to the recent rains in Pleasanton, which I understand set a record for rainfall for the month of September.
I was recently asked by a citizen if we had an official location for measuring rain. They thought we might. However, Pleasanton has no official location for measuring rain. But, I intend to change that. I think an ideal location for the official rainfall measurement of Pleasanton would be the airport. I am going to ask our city manager, Johnny Huizar, to assign this task to J.J. Roberts, our airport manager.
After a measurable rainfall, we will post the official reading on social media, the city’s website, on the front door of city hall and make sure the Pleasanton Express is also given the info. I think this is important, especially for those citizens who don’t measure rain. It may prompt them to turn off their sprinkler systems for a spell knowing how much rain was received, thus, saving on the water bill and conserving our most important resource. Now, I understand some residents in the city may receive more or less than what the airport measures, but, it will give us a good general idea of how much rain is received and we’ll call it official. Until the next rainfall…best regards.
