Greetings from the Mayor’s office:
This Saturday, September 8th, I have been invited to speak to some young men here in Pleasanton who have achieved quite a goal, that of attaining the level of Eagle Scout.
The first Eagle Scout was Arthur Eldred of New York in 1912, a 17-year-old member of Troop 1. This distinguished award has since been a major level of accomplishment, perhaps without equal. These Eagle Scouts are recognized across the country and even the world and count this title among their most treasured possessions. Those who earned it as boys continue to earn it every day as men. Since its founding, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by almost 2.5 million young men.
To earn the Eagle Scout rank, the highest advancement rank in Scouting, a Boy Scout must fulfill requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills. Quite a challenge taking years to complete and only four percent of Boy Scouts are granted this rank. And the Boys Scouts have announced that in 2019, a program for older girls will be available, enabling girls to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
Congratulations to Felix David Gutierrez, Allen Lloyd Rogers III, Blaine Walter Macmanus, Davin Ray Startz, and Augustin Guadalupe De La Torre. These young men will also be honored at our City Council meeting Thursday evening for a job well done and a “gold star”.
Until next week…best regards.
