Mayor’s Message

After taking a week off from my column and Monday afternoon open door sessions with the public, it’s “back in the saddle again.”

I was very sad to hear of the passing of Jerome Korus on August 23. Mr. Korus had just been in to see me at City Hall a couple of Mondays before and we had an enjoyable visit about “The Battle of Medina.”

I have known Jerome for many years and he had stopped by to ask my opinion about some property in Atascosa County, that he thought held some secrets about the battle. After visiting for a half hour or so, he went on his way to try to further answer his questions. I will miss Jerome. He was a gentleman and good friend.

I have received a large number of emails from our citizens. I make sure that the council rep for that individual citizen’s district is notified by forwarding the email to the respective council person. This is the quickest way to try to remedy the concern and get the ball rolling in the right direction. I follow up on each email received.

Sometimes the office of Mayor seems overwhelming and it is, but, that’s OK. I remember a quote from our 36th President, Lyndon B. Johnson: “When the burdens of the presidency seem unusually heavy, I always remind myself it could be worse. I could be a mayor.”

Until next week … best regards.
