Hollywood Park Mayor William Bohlke, 65, was found dead at the 200 acre farm he leases after being attacked by an agitated and aggressive donkey last Monday, August 27.

Bohlke, the mayor of the small town near the north part of San Antonio, was checking on his livestock off of Coble Road, about five miles north of Poteet. When he had not returned home Monday evening, his wife began to worry.

Chief Deputy David Soward reported Bohlke’s truck was still running and the driver’s door was open. He was found about 50 yards away under a trailer with irrigation pipe. The animal had apparently knocked him down, stepped on, kicked and bit him.

The death is ruled an accident and heart failure may have also been a contributing factor.

The donkey had a history of being aggressive and the fact that a jenny in estrus was nearby most likely did not help.

The retired Air Force Major was recently elected in his first bid for public office. He is survived by his wife Tonia, daughter Amber (Bohlke) Perry, sons Christopher Bohlke, and Brian Bohlke, their spouses and three grandchildren.
