Mary Gonzales passed away peacefully at home and surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, June, 17, 2020, at the age of 77. She was born April 25, 1943, to Santana Trevino and Julia Rodriguez in Poteet.
Mary was married to the love of her life, Jimmy P. Gonzales, for 48 wonderful years. The two shared a passion for 50s music and would have some of the best celebrations, including dressing in the 50s style and all. Mary was a wizard with sewing machines. She could tear any sewing machine apart and repair it no matter how simple or complex the issue was. She was a fantastic seamstress and thrived on creating different patterns and clothing of all sorts. She loved rescuing animals and was a fanatic for tomatoes. Mary was a fun, loving spirit who enjoyed life to the fullest.
Mary is survived by her husband, Jimmy P. Gonzales; sons, Paul Estrada, Jr. and Martin Acuna; daughter, Rachel Acuna; sisters, Stella M. Coronado, Helen R. Pagan, Lydia Rodriguez and Frances R. Ortiz; brothers, Freddy Rodriguez, Sr., John Rodriguez, Sal Trevino, Santana Trevino and Manuel Trevino; grandchildren, Brittany Polanco, Catherine Ramos, Martin Acuna, Jr., Josh Estrada, Jenny Salsero, Paul Estrada III and Erica Estrada; and great-grandchildren, Jayden, Violet, Sapharia, Evander, Bobby, Trinity and Nykole.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Santana Trevino and Julia Rodriguez; and her son, Mario EnBurto Acuna; and grandson, Rick Estrada.
Pallbearers will be Martin Acuna, Martin Acuna, Jr., Jimmie Gonzales, Louis Coronado, Johnny Joe Coronado, Mathew Ramos, Paul Estrada III, Terry Magnum and Tony Pagan, Jr.
Visitation was held Friday, June 19, at Hurley Funeral Home from 5-8 p.m. with the reading of the rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at Saint Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Poteet, followed by burial at Madre Cemetery #2.
