Maria Piedad Flores Martinez, age 98, of McCoy, went to be with the Lord on July 11, 2021, in Pleasanton. Maria was born in Weslaco, on April 16, 1923, to Ramon and Guadalupe Flores.
Maria Piedad was loved by many. She is survived by her five loving children, Pedro G. Martinez of Floresville; Juanita Lopez and husband Jose of Poth; Belia Garza and husband Antonio of Mc- Coy; Eugenio Martinez and wife Rosie of Pleasanton; and Salvador Martinez and wife Rosa of Falls City. She is survived by 26 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and 26 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Jose C. Martinez; parents Ramon and Guadalupe Flores; children Lupe Martinez and Domingo Martinez; siblings Ignacia Reyes, Senon Flores, Ramon Flores, Gumecinda Reyes, Veto Flores and Maria F. Partida; daughters-inlaw Yolanda Martinez and Ruth Martinez; grandchildren Olga Martinez, Gary Martinez, Gene Anthony Martinez, Christine Martinez Arocha, and Alfredo M. Garza; and two great grandchildren Jonathan Daniel Arocha and Nicholas Anthony Arocha.
Maria Piedad Flores Martinez married the love of her life at a young age and started her family which she loved dearly. When you saw her you would always see that smiling face and loving personality. She always found time to get her hair done; she had to have her perms. She loved her pets, plants and vegetables. She could grow anything that she planted. She was a hardworking woman in the fields and a harder-working woman in the kitchen, especially when she was making delicious carne guisada and tamales, a tradition that she passed down to her two daughters, still to this day.
