Current presiding Judge of the Atascosa County Court at Law, Lynn Ellison, won the 81st District Judge race against Errlinda Castillo securing 70 percent of the vote with a 13,850 margin and a total number of votes at press time of 25,250. The 81st district includes Atascosa, Frio, Karnes, La Salle and Wilson Counties. Ellison as presiding Judge of the Atascosa County Court at Law, hears daily criminal, civil, family, probate and juvenile cases. He will be taking former 81st District Judge Donna Reyes place who retired.
Ellison grew up and lives in Atascosa County and graduated from Pleasanton High School in 1968 where he was a star athlete and Salutatorian. He also graduated from Tulane University with honors, Phi Beta Kappa in 1971 and earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Texas School of Law in 1974. He has practiced law for 44 years and has worked in the five courthouses in the district for 33 years. Ellison previously served the district as District Attorney, assistant district attorney, assistant attorney general and was also Counsel to the Speaker of the Texas House of Representatives.
In his election guide statement, Ellison stated that a judge should be a student of the law, consider all matters before the court in a fair and impartial manner, and treat everyone equally and with respect. Ellison also said individuals deserve a judge that has the knowledge, experience and commitment to do the best job possible. Ellison has dedicated his legal career to public service. Ellison sought the 81st District Judge position so that he could continue doing his part to make our communities and rural areas great places to live, work and enjoy our families.
