As their way of giving back to the community that has given them so much, Jennifer and James George of George Farms are preparing for their upcoming “Love Grows Here” event.

The family-owned farm is located at 595 Mobile Home Alley in Poteet. They grow fruits and veggies year round such as radishes, Brussels sprouts, carrots, strawberries, peas and more.

The farm will host 30 local vendors on Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to join them for a festive day of shopping, delicious food, baked goods, fresh produce, fishing, photo opportunities for the family and more.

“It is all local vendors and that’s why we’ve created the title ‘Love Grows

Many of the vendors are home businesses and others are local, small businesses.

Jim Collums of Poteet Country Winery will be on hand for wine-tasting and selling wine. Bring the little ones, as there will also be a Kid’s Corner where kids can make a Valentine’s Day card for their parents. There will also be plenty of games and mini photoshoots with Chicken Scratch Photography and their vintage truck.

Little Flower Farm will be at the Love Grows Here celebration selling soft pretzels and pickled green tomatoes.

Be ready to dine on your favorite foods, as The Backyard Kitchen will be on hand. George Farms will be selling their fresh produce, hot chocolate bombs and chocolate-covered strawberries gift sets, perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Just Clowning Around will be providing face paintings. Another fun activity for the kiddos will be a scavenger hunt, where they will receive a goodie bag.

Jennifer will be putting together a gift basket with an item from each vendor. The basket will be raffled at the end of the event. Tickets are $5 each, or if you purchase an item from the George Farms General Store, you can also be entered in the gift basket drawing.

“The reason that we chose this event, especially around Valentine’s Day, is because we love to give back to the community when we can,” said Jennifer. “We don’t have a lot of money to give back to the community so this is our way of trying to grow small businesses.”

The farm provides a space to utilize, where everyone feels safe and has social distancing, shared Jennifer.

Stop by the General Store at George Farms for their farm fresh eggs, fresh produce, canned goods and more.

“Especially with COVID, it is hard for those businesses that might be out of business right now and can’t have even a storefront. They can at least come out here because we are open air,” said Jennifer.

Her husband James said, “We want to support local businesses as much as we can. When we go shopping, we try to do as much of our personal shopping with local people. Like today when we bought toys for our son, we went to Primo’s.”

George Farms is located off Highway 476 in Poteet, just across from Peach Tree Estates. Look for the George Farms signs and arrows.

Update on Billy George

The George family was featured in the Pleasanton Express back in November, as they were trying to raise money for a Diabetic Alert Dog for son Billy. Jennifer is excited to announce they raised the money needed for the dog.

“So now we’re on the waiting list and we should actually have the dog in the trainer’s hands in about a week or so,” said Jennifer.

They are waiting for the litter through Tattle Tail Scent Dogs out of Utah. She cannot wait to post a picture of Billy and his long-awaited friend.
