Local Matters

How long has it been since you have made a Cowboy Homecoming memory? Please make plans this year to make new memories at the 53rd Cowboy Homecoming celebration held at the Atascosa County Show Barn March 8 and 9 with a kick-off roping event dedicated to Cody Lawrence beginning on March 7. Pick up the beautifully designed Cowboy Homecoming Special included in this issue which is packed with all the fun, excitement, entertainment and pageantry of Pleasanton’s oldest and most loved festival.

Cowboy Homecoming was one of the local happenings that drew my parents to this town when they were looking for a new community newspaper to purchase in 1974. What a fun packed festival it was even though it was held in the hottest Texas month possible – August. Cowboy Homecoming has changed over the years. Once held in Texas’ hottest, it is now held in March and is held in conjunction with the Turn N Burn BBQ Cook-Off. Beer, bands and barbeque are just a small portion of the fun as there is something for everyone at this twoday event. Friday night the pageantry starts with the Little Mr. & Miss Cowboy Homecoming Contest followed by the crowning of the 2019 Cowboy Homecoming Queen and then the dedication ceremony for the team roping dedicated to Cody Lawrence. The Saturday morning parade begins at 10 a.m. Please see map on page 13C for the route.

Tickets for the concerts are only $15 each presale at Eventbrite.com and $20 at the door. For VIP tickets, $100 buys oneperson entry into both nights’ concerts with all the free food and drinks plus a meet and greet at 10 p.m. with David Garza y los Musicales and Cory Morrow. For more info on VIP tickets read front page story of the special and call the Chamber at 830- 570-2163.

The Pleasanton Express wants to thank all the local businesses who advertised in the Cowboy Homecoming special as well as our regular section advertisers who gave shouts out to our town’s oldest tradition. Please shop these businesses who help bring you community news weekly. Without their advertising support, we would not be able to bring you the award-winning coverage weekly in print and digital at www.pleasantonexpress.com. The Pleasanton Express will be at Cowboy Homecoming. We hope to see you there too!
