Local Matters

A date has been chosen for the Atascosa Town Hall SOS AT&T meeting. The meeting will be held Oct. 8, 2018, 6:30 p.m., at the Pleasanton Lion’s Club, 114 Wyoming Blvd.

Atascosa County AT&T has heard our cry about unreliable cell and internet service. AT&T contacted AT&T customer and Texas Senator Elect Pete Flores before his election and Flores has been in contact with AT&T since his win regarding the need for improved service now. AT&T has informed him that they are expediting their plans to improve service in Atascosa specifically citing Pleasanton.

Two AT&T executives and an engineer came to hold a meeting with Pleasanton City Manager Johnny Huizar and Mayor Travis Hall to communicate the same message. In the discussion with the city, they mentioned land acquisition, which would indicate that changes will not be imminent but are moving forward.

AT&T, we appreciate that you have taken time to speak to these leaders of our community. We know they will hold you accountable to your word especially the expediting portion of these conversations. However, we respectfully say that you owe your customers face time. Now, is the time for AT&T executives and engineers to please show up for this town hall meeting on Oct. 8 to MEET face to face with your customers who need to be heard.

In Atascosa County, we stand on our own 49,000 strong. We are not a suburb or bedroom community of San Antonio. We buy the latest and greatest products from AT&T. We run our businesses with your internet and phone services and for a small community we do big business here. Cumulatively, your Atascosa AT&T customers locally represent millions of dollars to AT&T. We are not small change in AT&T’s pockets. Other carriers will be attending this town hall meeting as they are eagerly ready to sign up unhappy customers with their services.

It is not just commerce that is impacted. The failure of AT&T locally is a serious safety issue. We cannot depend upon our cell phones to work daily in cases of emergencies or everyday normal duties and activities. Our quality of life is greatly impacted. A level of frustration with AT&T is a point of daily conversation. These communication issues are not minor inconveniences. They range from frustrating to debilitating and are the daily expectations of life with AT&T in Atascosa County.

AT&T’s mission statement reads: “Today, our mission is to connect people with their world, everywhere they live and work and do it better than anyone else.”

Your mission is failing here in Atascosa County. You need to reach out and connect directly to the people who pay you and communicate with them about what you are doing to expedite and fix these serious service issues.

I will personally be inviting every AT&T executive, communications/public relations director and engineer possible to attend this meeting. The meeting will be conducted with a strict set of guidelines that must be adhered to in order to participate. No disrespectful behavior, cursing, loud or aggressive verbal or body language or unlawfulness will be tolerated. This will be a peaceful forum that allows voices to be heard. AT&T: Answer our call to come to Pleasanton.
