Local Christmas events galore

Pleasanton Chamber Santa visit Dec. 6

The Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce will have pictures with Santa Claus at H-E-B on Saturday, December 6 from 1-4 p.m. Bring a canned food item to donate to the food bank.

Lighted Christmas Parade set for Dec. 6

Just a reminder that the Brush Country community is urged to attend the annual Lighted Christmas Parade in Pleasanton, this Saturday, Dec. 6. Judging of the entries will begin at 6 p.m. and the parade will kick off about 6:30 p.m.

“The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Posse have sponsored this event since 2009, explained Wood. “People really look forward to this parade.”

The festive event features local residents often donning red and green apparel, Santa hats and other Christmas themes. Sometimes they even dress up as angels or elves. They decorate their horses, floats and vehicles with such items as colorful lights, candy canes and more.

Those participating will meet at the Atascosa River Park in Pleasanton. This is also where the parade will end.

Trophies will be awarded to the entry with: The Most Decorated Horse and Rider, Most Decorated Float and Most Decorated Vehicle. If you can’t participate, come and see all the horses and lights.

Last year’s first placewinning entries included the Moore family dressing their vehicle as a Christmas Cowboy Mater (similar to Tow Mater from the movie “Cars”), Dr. Laura Mendes’ horse and buggy entry and a float entry from the United 4-H Horse Club of Bexar County.

Free refreshments will be served afterward by the event organizers.

Christmas in Charlotte

Come and have some fun at the Christmas Celebration in Charlotte this Saturday, Dec. 6, at Davenport City Park. The festive event begins at 3 p.m. and will continue until midnight.

The Christmas Night Parade is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.

Enjoy live music by Hunter Chavez Y Los Casadorez, Los Jimenez, Los R.V. Boyz and DJ Sound FXS.

Firework display at 10 p.m., sponsored by A&I Grocery Store Inc. Bring the little ones to the pictures with Santa!

Food booths will include fajitas, turkey legs, brisket tacos, hamburgers, menudo, hayrides and games for the children.

All donations and funds will go toward the Charlotte City Park.

County Line Band Concert on Dec. 7

On Sunday, Dec. 7, the County Line Community Band will proudly present a musical celebration for all at the Pleasanton Civic Center. The concert is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. The center is located in downtown Pleasanton at 115 N. Main Street.

The band performs annually for Christmas, usually at the Longhorn Museum for the Longhorn Museum Society. Per their request and due to the renovation project at the museum currently underway, they will perform instead at the Pleasanton Civic Center.

The County Line Community band is a volunteer band for all ages, from high school kids to folks in their 70s.

The group is a nonprofit organization and is always looking for new members. If you haven’t played in years, that’s fine. Come join the fun. The band practices every Sunday in Loire.

Christmas Village comes alive this weekend

Christmas Village Ministries of Atascosa County invite the public to experience the 2014 presentation of Christmas Village.

It takes over 180 participants portraying the people of this most important time of Christianity. This year’s performances are on Friday, Saturday, & Sunday, December 5th 6th& 7th at the Poteet Strawberry Festival Grounds starting at 5:30 pm with the first tour leaving at 6:00 pm.

Come and enjoy complementary coffee, hot cocoa and cookies along with some wonderful local entertainment while you await the start of your tour. There is never a charge for this event and we will provide you the opportunity for you to help Christian Assistance Ministries CAM by bringing a can of food or a nonperishable food item for the CANS for CAM. We will collect food items for local distribution and with your help fill the pantry.

Actors for Christmas Village come from all parts of Atascosa County and surrounding areas, with many of our Churches participating and there is still room available for you to participate. Please come by the Rotary Building at the Poteet Strawberry Festival Grounds at 7:00 pm, Wednesday and Thursday to see where you can help. If it is a speaking or non-speaking part, entertaining folks while they await their tour departure or serving cookies to the visitors, there is a spot for you and the friend that you bring with you too. If your Church is not yet participating we ask that you give us a call, there are many area that need help.

Santa arrives in Jourdanton on Monday

Santa Claus will be arriving in Jourdanton on Monday, Dec. 8, at 6:30 p.m. The Jourdanton Fire Department will be delivering the jolly ol’ fellow to the Jourdanton Library and Community Center.

All the children will get to visit with Santa and have their picture taken, courtesy of Walgreens.

Food and drinks will be available in the community center for purchase. A yummy bake sale will be taking place at the same time. Also, the Poteet Nursing Home staff will be cooking up their amazing hamburgers.

So come out and bring the family, visit with Santa and stay for supper.
