Robert Earl Wood invites the community to the annual Lighted Christmas Parade in Pleasanton, scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6. Judging of the entries will begin at 6 p.m. and the parade will kick off about 6:30 p.m.

“The Atascosa County Sheriff’s Posse have sponsored this event since 2009, explained Wood. “People really look forward to this parade.”

The festive event features local residents often donning red and green apparel, Santa hats and other Christmas themes. Sometimes they even dress up as angels or elves. They decorate their horses, floats and vehicles with such items as colorful lights, candy canes and more.

Those participating will meet at the Atascosa River Park in Pleasanton. This is also where the parade will end.

Trophies will be awarded to the entry with: The Most Decorated Horse and Rider, Most Decorated Float and Most Decorated Vehicle. If you can’t participate, come and see all the horses and lights.

Last year’s first placewinning entries included the Moore family dressing their vehicle as a Christmas Cowboy Mater (similar to Tow Mater from the movie “Cars”), Dr. Laura Mendes’ horse and buggy entry and a float entry from the United 4-H Horse Club of Bexar County.

Free refreshments will be served afterward by the event organizers.

There is still time to enter the parade. Entry forms are available at the Pleasanton Express office and can be mailed to: ACSP, P.O. Box 562, Pleasanton, TX 78064. You can also pick up forms at the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce log cabin.

You can e-mail your entry division to: Bellfarms@juno.com and please enter “Parade Entry” in subject line.
