PLEASANTON – The Texas Department of Transportation will close the Leal Road bridge over the Atascosa River May 29 for four months while crews replace it.
The closure will be total, requiring motorists to use Jim Brite Road to get across the river when traveling to or from Interstate 37. Detour signs will be clearly posted to mark the route.
The $280,000 project is part of TxDOT’s off-system bridge program and will replace the steel bridge with a much wider all-concrete bridge. The primary reason for this cooperative effort between TxDOT and Atascosa County is to improve the safety of the county road system.
Work is expected to be finished by the end of September, though weather and other mitigating circumstances can affect the completion date.
