The downtown streets of Pleasanton will come alive for the sixth annual Pleasanton Hispanic Chamber of Commerce’s Market Days this Friday and Saturday. Expanded to two days this year, the event promises to be bigger and better.
Friday, October 18 “Urban CowboyNight” Johnny Lee headlines
On Friday, dubbed as “Urban Cowboy” night, The Toman Brothers Band will start the evening entertainment at 6 p.m. Then South Texas icon Johnny Rodriguez will follow at 7:30 p.m. At 9 p.m., Siggno will please the crowds and then Johnny Lee (Lookin’ For Love, popular song from the movie ‘Urban Cowboy”) will close out the evening at 11:30 p.m. A mechanical bull will be available to ride, just like Sissy and Bubba did in the movie.
Saturday, October 19 La Mafia headlines
The entertainment starts early on Saturday afternoon with the Mariachi group Las Coronelas (12:30 p.m.). Hear Blow My Cover (1:30 p.m.) and then South Texas blues charmer, Ruben V will take the stage at 3 p.m. Buck N Crazy will follow at 4:30 p.m.
At 6:30 Tejano velvet voiced Marcos Orozco y Grupo Rebelde will start the evening entertainment. Conjunto faves, Los Aguilares, will follow at 8 p.m. At 9:30 Tex-Mex’s “El Primo” Roberto Pulido will entertain everyone just before South Texas’ popular and Latin Grammy winners La Mafia take the stage at 11:30 p.m.
Pre-sale tickets for the dances are $10 each and are available at The UPS Store, 703 W. Oaklawn, Pleasanton. Tickets will be $12 at the gate.
Admission will be free up until 6 p.m. Saturday. Entrance to the evening dances will be located between the Crosspoint Fellowship Church and the Haverlah Building on Main Street as well as the entrance near Nest Feathers and Ms. Tera’s Taps n’ Toes. at Johnson Street and Main Street.
Besides the delicious food – turkey legs, gorditas, brisket tacos, roasted corn, corn in a cup, sausage on a stick, hamburgers, chicken and beef fajitas, and beverages (margaritas, beer, sodas, water) booths, there will also be arts and crafts, antiques, a farmer’s market and mariachis.
Free movie at the Plestex
Kids can attend a free matinee movie at the Plestex 4 Theater. The animated movie “Hotel Transylvania” (rated PG) will be shown at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the Pleasanton Express and during the event on Saturday.
Kids can also jump in the bouncing castle, participate in games, ride a mechanical bull and play video games in the Game Truck.
A washer tournament will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19. Registration is $20 per team and prizes will be awarded.

Verdi favorite (from the 7 Mile Garage Sale) Lina Huizar will be among the vendors.
