The Pleasanton Lady Eagles split their opening two contests to begin the 2020-2021 basketball season.
The Lady Eagles (1-1) opened their season with a 39-37 home loss to Bandera on Friday, Nov. 13. Pleasanton led 29-27 entering the fourth quarter before the Lady Bulldogs outscored them 12-8 in the final period.
Senior Kayli Kennedy opened the new season with 11 points in Friday’s loss. Kennedy is the team’s returning scoring leader from last season with an average of 5.8 points per game.
Sophomore Sadie McAda added nine points for the Lady Eagles against Bandera.
The Lady Eagles’ scheduled season opener with Crystal City was canceled due to COVID-related issues at Crystal City. The Lady Eagles replaced that game with an away contest at Uvalde on Saturday, Nov. 14.
The Lady Eagles downed Uvalde 39-29 in the late addition to the schedule. Pleasanton led 25-16 at halftime.
Kennedy once again set the pace with 13 points. Fellow senior Heaven Marquez posted 10 points in the win for the Lady Eagles.
Both McAda and Jazel Mendoza each had six points on Saturday.
Pleasanton hosted San Antonio Memorial on Tuesday night. The Lady Eagles will travel to Mc- Mullen County for a 5 p.m tipoff on Friday.
The Lady Eagles will return home on Tuesday, Nov. 24, to face Lytle before the Thanksgiving break.
District play will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 5, for the Lady Eagles.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, teams are limited to 27 games this season and no tournaments will be held.
