Lady Eagles can’t find way around Gonzales, La Vernia

The Pleasanton Lady Eagles dropped a pair of 30- 4A contests by a combined five points last week.

The Lady Eagles opened the week with a narrow, 38-36 home loss to Gonzales.

Pleasanton fell behind 13-3 in the first quarter before storming back to pull within 19-16 at halftime. That momentum carried the Lady Eagles to a 12-point third quarter that saw them lead 28-27 entering the fourth.

Gonzales outscored the Lady Eagles 11-8 in the fourth quarter to steal the crucial win.

Baylee Bauer led the way with 17 points for Pleasanton. Sadie McAda finished the game with eight points.

The Lady Eagles then traveled to La Vernia on Friday and fell 43-40.

Pleasanton held their own, trailing 9-8 after the first and 21-18 at halftime. They would outscore La Vernia 10-9 in the third quarter to make it a twopoint game before the Lady Bears outscored Pleasanton 13-12 in the final frame.

Junior Heaven Marquez led the way for the Lady Eagles with 14 points. Kayli Kennedy finished with nine.

Pleasanton (17-10, 2-4) traveled to Cuero on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and host Geronimo Navarro on Friday, Jan. 24.
