The Poteet Lady Aggies got a big boost to their playoff hopes by knocking off the defending district champion Jourdanton Squaws on Tuesday, Sept. 15.

The Lady Aggies took down the Squaws in four sets (25-23, 25-23, 13-25, 25-15) to move into a tie for fourth place with Natalia (2-2 in District 27-3A entering Tuesday night). It was Jourdanton’s first district loss in two years.

Senior Lauren Davila’s 12 kills and six aces helped power the Lady Aggies to the monumental win. Fellow senior Brooke Rasmussen added 10 kills. Freshman setter Taryn Garcia accounted for 19 assists in Tuesday’s win. Stevani Monreal added 13 digs on the defensive side for the Lady Aggies.

Jourdanton was led by a double-double from junior setter Macey Briones, who had 20 assists and 11 digs Tuesday night. Briones and Alstyn Hartman each had four aces to their name, as well.

Madison Yow finished with team-high marks after posting nine kills and three blocks. Emma Roach had 15 digs for Jourdanton.

Poteet carried their momentum into the weekend, sweeping Dilley (25-11, 25-14, 25-15) on Saturday.

Davila’s double-double of 11 kills,19 assists and four aces helped the Lady Aggies to their secondconsecutive win in district play. Garcia had 26 assists for a team-high on Saturday.

Jourdanton would rebound on Saturday when they beat Karnes City in four sets (21-25, 25-19, 25- 12, 29-27).

The win on Saturday helped the Squaws (3-1 in district entering Tuesday) maintain their spot in second place in District 27-3A, just a half-game behind Karnes City (2-1) in the district standings.

Poteet traveled to Cotulla (0-1) on Tuesday and will travel to Lytle on Saturday, Sept. 26.

Jourdanton hosted Poth (4-0) on Tuesday and will host Cotulla on Saturday.
