What is better than having a barbecue on Labor Day? Having it a day early and prepared for you by the parishioners of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Christine. Their annual Labor Day Picnic is this Sunday, September
2.
Besides the barbecue brisket and sausage dinner, complete with trimmings, there will be lots of entertaining events happening as well. At 12:30 the big auction will begin in the comfort of the air conditioned pavilion. Stay for bingo, the roping competition, washer and horseshoe tournaments, game booths, arts & crafts, DJ music, a country store and a drawing for prizes. Then later, a big dance will end the day’s fun.
Team Roping
Organizers have scheduled Team Roping for all to enjoy. Books open for contestants at 2:00 p.m. with the draw at 3:00 p.m. and the start time is immediately after the draw.
Information for the ropers includes: #10 (Capped @ #5 and Open Roping. Enter with a partner Draw 2 or Enter Open Draw 3 for $75/Roper. Cash Only!

Tournaments
The Singles Washer Tournament begins at 1 p.m. There is a $5 entry fee due at registration. T-shirts will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
The Team Horseshoe Tournament gets underway at 3 p.m. and there is a $10 entry fee at registration. T-shirts will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.
Throughout the day, you might want to purchase a ticket to enter the prize drawing. The drawing will be held at 10 p.m., during an intermission at the dance.
Free Dance
The dance, which runs from 8 p.m. until 12:30 a.m., will feature music by TEJAS SONIDO from Jourdanton. Admission to the dance is free.
