Keri Lyn Key of Jourdanton passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the age of 57, after a courageous fight against brain cancer. She went peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving husband and family. She was born May 6, 1961 in Heidelberg, Germany to Mondell Hunsaker and Sandra (Clegg) Vyvlecka. She married her soulmate, David Key, on December 13, 1986.
Keri always felt she was called to be a mom and her greatest joy was her family, whom will miss her greatly. She taught her daughters to be strong, be independent, and to stand up for what is right, and she gave her husband true joy and everlasting love. She was talented and creative in many areas. For many years, Keri worked as a successful entrepreneur, owning a restaurant (The Flaky Croissant), a show hog business (Key Show Hogs), and a commercial cleaning business (Daisy Fresh Cleaners), reiterating the value of committing to doing a great job every day. Keri enjoyed helping kids breed, raise, and show hogs, and she actively assisted in Little League sports, serving as Little League President for 14 years and coaching for and with her daughters. She was also the President of the Women’s VFW Auxiliary.
Keri is survived by her beloved husband of 32 years, David Key; daughters, Taylor (Key) Phillips and husband Ross, Kirby (Key) Parvin and husband Marty, Spencer (Key) Galvan and husband TJ, and Cassidy (Key) Mercer; sisters, Kelly Culbreath and husband Jack and Kori Smith; brother, Curtis Svoboda and wife Lea. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Payton Phillips, Wesley Schorsch, Carter Parvin, Corbin Mercer, Hedy Galvan, and Gentry Mercer. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Kendall Key, and her parents Mondell Hunsaker and Sandra (Clegg) Vyvlecka.
Visitation will be conducted at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on Thursday, January 17 from 4 to 9 p.m. Funeral service, officiated by Danny Brown, will be at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pleasanton on Friday, January 18 at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment at the Mission Park North Cemetery at the Dominion. Pallbearers for Keri’s service will be her family, David Key, Taylor and Ross Phillips, Kirby and Marty Parvin, Spencer and TJ Galvan and Cassidy Mercer.
