The McMullen County Junior High Cowgirls captured three wins this past week. Last Thursday the Cowgirls traveled to Victoria and downed the Victoria Christian Academy Lady Cobras by a score of 23-15.
“The Lady Cobras have a quality team and this was a big road win for us. Makinna Seratta and Hallie Taylor led us in scoring while Lily Arredondo and Blaye Lee played great on the defensive end. Mirza Bazan and Cora Lopez also played great to help us secure the win,” stated Coach Tony Taylor.
This past weekend the Cowgirls won their tournament by downing Charlotte by a score of 51-4 and then defeating the Three Rivers Lady Bulldogs by the score of 23-15. “In the Charlotte game everyone scored and we applied great pressure from the start. In the Three Rivers game we got a quick start but the Lady Bulldogs rallied to keep it close but we made some shots down the stretch to pull away. We only had six girls for the two games but the Cowgirls played hard and had the “refuse to lose” attitude even when they were tired. I was especially proud of Hannah Arisola for her contributions during the tournament. Also, our prayers go out to the Arisola family and we want you guys to know that you are in our thoughts as you deal with the loss of Frank Junior,” stated Coach Taylor.
