The Pleasanton High School JROTC supported Wreaths Across America at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on Friday, Dec. 17.
Twenty-three cadets from the Eagle Battalion assisted the San Antonio Patriot Guard Riders with the laying of 500 wreaths at the front entrance of the cemetery where former Prisoners of War and six Medal of Honor recipients are buried.
Col. (Ret.) Christopher Wynder would like to thank Mrs. Barbara Johnson and Ms. Judy Carlisle for the opportunity provided to our cadets from Pleasanton, Poteet and Jourdanton High Schools to honor the service of those who served our great nation.
Wreaths Across America is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman Morrill Worcester in 1992. The organization’s mission – Remember, Honor, Teach – is carried out in part each year by coordinating wreathlaying ceremonies in December at Arlington, as well as thousands of veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states and beyond.
