Edith Joy Foster of Verdi, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at the age of 96.
She was born in Verdi on April 7, 1920 to Marion Frank and Lottie Davis (Fuller) Royal.
Joy worked at the Pleasanton Independent School District for 20 years in the Special Education Department. Her hobbies included crafting, reading, collecting recipes, baking, needlework and gardening. She was a member of the Verdi Church of Christ.
Joy is survived by her two children, Laura F. Lewis and husband Al of New Braunfels and Roger L. Foster and wife Sheila of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; daughter-in-law Colleen Foster Petropoulos; grandchildren Michael Lewis of Houston, Kacie Roth and husband Cody of Lubbock, Robin Petropoulos of Rockport, Shanna Brown and husband Andy of Germany; great-grandchildren Preston and Peyton Roth, Arianna and Evelyn Brown; sisters-in-law Mildred Royal and Lois Royal of Verdi. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lottie Royal; four brothers, Jesse, Bart, Lee and Ned Royal and three children, James Buster, Peggy and Terry.
Serving as pallbearers were Floyd Royal, Lee Royal, Jeff Royal, Bart Royal, Bryan Royal and Leonard Montgomery.
Visitation was held at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton on Thursday, September 1 from 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service led by Joe Hughes was held at Hurley Funeral Home on Friday, September 2 at 1 p.m. Interment followed at Brite Cemetery.
