Jourdanton Elementary and Jourdanton Junior High School are supporting bullying prevention at each campus. Jourdanton Elementary is in their third year of implementing the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program.

Each teacher teaches a class meeting once a week covering a situation or a skill dealing with bully prevention. They held a kick-off week Oct. 17-21. On Monday they did an activity called the Wrinkled Heart, Tuesday the teachers read a bullying story, on Wednesday all of the students received anti-bullying bookmarks that they got to color and use for their books, Thursday was Compliment Day, and on Friday everyone was asked to wear red to support the fight against bullying.

Jourdanton Junior High also is implementing the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, along with the Positive Action program through the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Grant. All students receive weekly lessons in these programs. They held a bully-prevention week Oct. 31-Nov. 4. Monday was BOO! to Bullies. Each advisory class worked very hard to create an anti-bully pledge for the campus. Mrs. Shahan’s advisory won a trip to Whataburger for being the winning class. On Tuesday students and staff wore peace clothing to match the theme for the day, “Keep the Peace” at JJH. Every Wednesday the staff wears their Anti-Bullying shirts to make a statement to the students that bullying is not okay. The students each received a sneaker that they wrote an anti-bullying saying, promise, or pledge towards the fight against bullying. The new anti-bully pledge will also be recited on this day. Thursday was “Team Together to Stop Bullies!” and the students and staff wore team shirts or jerseys. Friday was Jourdanton Pride Day and everyone wore red to promote Jourdanton Pride and the fight against bullying.

The staffs at both school are working very hard to spread the word about bully prevention.

Jourdanton Jr. High
Anti-Bullying Pledge
I will stand up for those
who are bullied.
I will include others who
are left out.
All bullying will be reported. We will be friends not foes.
For now and forever…
We will ELIMINATE bullying!
