Jourdanton powerlifters qualify for state meet

Three Jourdanton powerlifters qualified for the state meet.

Senior Dedrick Querner and junior Isaac Paredes qualified for the Indians. Junior Kylie Bosquez qualified for the state meet, as well.

The Indians finished fifth out of 44 teams at the Region V meet at Bishop High School. Paredes led the way for the Indians, finishing first in the 220-pound weight class. Querner finished third in the 132-pound weight class to qualify for state. Verdin finished fourth at the regional meet and missed out on state qualification by 10 pounds.

Bosquez finished in third in her weight class at the regional meet in Edcouch to make her the lone state qualifier for the Squaws. The junior squatted 405 pounds, bench pressed 160 and deadlifted 320 pounds to qualify for the state meet.

Head Coach James Martin also praised the three sophomore Squaws of Lauren Wells, Rayven Van Heeswyk and Jaylan Camp for qualifying for the regional meet. Each of the three turned in personal records at regionals.
