Both Jourdanton and Poteet ISD are just weeks into the 2020-2021 school year, and each district has announced two lab-confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 on their campuses.
On Sept. 1, Jourdanton ISD announced in a letter to parents/guardians and students of two confirmed cases of COVID-19; one at the Early Childhood Center campus and one at the high school campus. Both individuals, unnamed due to privacy requirements of JISD, were on campus on Aug. 28.
“After careful review, we have determined that the COVID-19-positive person(s) did come into contact with students, staff or areas accessed by students or staff, and those individuals were and/or [their] parents were notified immediately by school personnel,” said JISD Superintendent Theresa McAllister.
“Those that were in close contact will remain off campus for 14 days to ensure they do not have the virus, so that there will not be any further spread. We will keep you apprised of further updates.”
JISD encourages all members of the district’s community to continually monitor for any symptoms of COVID-19 as listed by the CDC. Should anyone experience any symptoms in any way that is not typical, please contact your physician and respective JISD campus nurse immediately.

On Tuesday afternoon, Poteet ISD announced the confirmation of two COVID-19 cases at the district’s junior high and high school campuses.
“In keeping with the Poteet ISD’s practices to respond to COVID-19, we are notifying all students and families that a staff member/student who was lab confirmed to have COVID-19 was present on the Poteet Jr. High campus on Sept. 3 and a staff member/student who was lab confirmed to have COVID-19 was present on the Poteet High School campus on Sept. 4,” said PISD Superintendent Charles Camarillo in a letter to parents and students.
Due to privacy requirements, the district is not releasing the names of the individuals or details that may identify them as the district believes the exposure occurred off campus.
“We are working together closely with the local health department on this matter,” said Camarillo.
After careful review, Poteet ISD has confirmed that the COVID-19 positive individuals did not come into contact with students or staff members, but did have access to the campuses. All campuses have been sanitized appropriately and operations will continue as usual for the Poteet ISD school year.
“While we do not have reason to believe that those who were not in contact with the infected individual have reason to be concerned, we ask that you, as always, watch for symptoms of COVID-19,” said Camarillo.
Poteet ISD encourages any member of the Poteet ISD community who begins experiencing any COVID-19 symptoms in a way that is not typical to contact their physician immediately. If you come back with a lab-confirmed COVID-19 positive test, please notify the school district as well.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Poteet ISD at 830-742-3567.
