Jourdanton opens season with 10-2 start

Squaws go 5-1 for second place finish at Skidmore tournament

Though it’s early in the season, the Jourdanton girls have gotten off to a hot start.

After finishing second in the Skidmore Tournament with a 5-1 record, the Squaws are currently sitting at an impressive 10-2 overall record.

Jourdanton picked up wins against Falls City, Skidmore, Bloomington and Premont over the weekend. Senior Emma Dorroh, freshman Gabby Gonzales and junior McKinley West were selected to the all-tournament team.

Dorroh led the team in scoring as she finished five of the six games in double-digits. Against Skidmore, the guard recorded 35 points and three steals. In total, four different players scored in double-digits at least once in the tournament.

Jourdanton began their tournament with a victory over Falls City 52-45. Dorroh impacted both sides of the floor with 19 points, six steals and four rebounds. Gonzales and junior Mallory Vickers finished in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.

In a 54-45 victory over Premont, Dorroh once again made an impact with 22 points and five steals. Gonzales followed the lead and contributed 15 points of her own.

The Squaws were able to move the ball around and open things up offensively. In their fourth game, junior Jadyn Jupe finished with 16 points in Jourdanton’s dominant 47-10 win over Bloomington .

With a first place finish on the line, Jourdanton went up against Poth in the championship game. Dorroh closed out the tournament with 19 points in the game. However, it wasn’t enough as the Squaws fell 45-37 to take home a second place finish.

Jourdanton hosted Bandera Tuesday afternoon in just their second home game of the season. Results from the matchup will be provided in next week’s issue.
