Jourdanton officer fatally shoots man

A 43-year-old Jourdanton man, Rick McClendon, died after a confrontation with Jourdanton police officers on Tuesday, January 13.

At around 11:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on Olive Street. Officers tried to subdue McClendon after he allegedly charged after the officers wielding a knife and a pipe.

An officer attempted tasing him and was unsuccessful. He was then shot by another officer and died of the wound later.

A full investigation is being performed by the Texas Rangers with local authorities providing support, according to Atascosa County Sheriff David Soward.

The officer has been placed on administrative duty in accordance with the investigation.
