Jourdanton knocks of Charlotte, 65-49

The Jourdanton Indians traveled to Charlotte last Friday to play against the Charlotte Trojans.

Jourdanton pulled on top to beat the Trojans 69-45 to mark their first win of the season. Leading scorers for the Indians were Clyde Schuchart with 13 points, Luke Tapp with 8 points, and Riley Howard with 10 points. “I think it was really important that we were able to pickup the game with Charlotte to give us a baseline of where we are at,” Head coach Truman Reagan said. “Charlotte played really hard all game, give them credit. I liked our energy, we were able to rotate a lot of guys and saw bright spots that we can build on. Our guards handled the ball well especially against the press but have to be better decision makers. Our post play can be a strong point this season but we have to be more physical and rebound more consistently.”

Anthony Romo led the Trojans with 11 points against the Indians. Guillermo Velasquez led the Trojans with 10 rebounds.

In their first game against George West on Nov. 15, Charlotte put forth a strong effort until the buzzer but fell 59-56.

After going up 18-14 after the first quarter, the Trojans were unable to keep their slight lead. George West took the lead going into the half and eventually escaped with the win. The Trojans struggled at the free throw line, shooting under 40 percent.

The Trojans bounced back from the Jourdanton loss with a win against Cotulla on Monday.
