Jourdanton fire claims two lives

A memorial service will be held today at Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton at 1 p.m. for Carolyn Appleton of Jourdanton.

The Jourdanton Police Department released a statement that investigations up to this point lead them to believe it was 63-year old Appleton whose body was discovered in the house fire on March 9. The body of the male victim was that of 62-year old James Arthur Crabb of Pleasanton. His funeral services are currently pending with Hurley Funeral Home.

Atascosa County Fire Marshal Chuck Garris said oilfield workers on their way to work called in the structure fire at 410 Main St., at about 3:30 a.m. He added the fire started in the living room of the double-wide mobile home. It took about 30 minutes for the Jourdanton and Pleasanton Volunteer Fire Departments to extinguish the fire. Crews remained at the scene until 8 a.m.

On Saturday, The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms was at the scene investigating. The cause of the fire is still undetermined.
