The Jourdanton football team is headed to the playoffs despite falling in its regular season finale Friday.
The Indians lost 57-7 at Goliad but advanced to the postseason after finishing tied for third place with Cotulla and Mathis at 2-3.
Jourdanton will be the No. 4 seed out of District 15-3A Division I by virtue of its 18-12 win over the Cowboys on Nov. 3.
The district’s tiebreaker awards the first position to the team with the best point differential, which is Mathis. The third-seeded Pirates had a plus-7 differential after beating the Indians by 14 and losing to Cotulla 34-27 in their finale Friday night.
The tiebreaker policy then advances the head-to-head winner between the remaining teams, which gave Jourdanton (4-6 overall) the final playoff berth.
Jourdanton will face 16-3A DI champion Lyford in bi-district at 2 p.m. Saturday at Indian Stadium.
Against Goliad, senior Kord Northcut had a team-high 94 rushing yards on 27 carries. Isaac Ramos had the Indians’ lone TD and finished with 28 rushing yards.
