Joseph Eugene LaRue, Jr., better known as Gene, passed away on Monday June 23, 2014 at the age of 61.
He was born October 17, 1952 in McAllister, Oklahoma to Joseph and Ola Mae LaRue, Sr. and has since been a long-time resident of Pleasanton.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jan (Thompson) LaRue, his sister Patti Wilkins, his children Leslie McClellan and Gerald LaRue, and his stepsons Ross, Randall, and Russell Westbrook. He is especially proud of his ten wonderful grandchildren who loved him very much.
He was preceded in death by brothers Charles, George, and Bobby LaRue.
Gene worked as a Security Officer at Union Pacific Railroad. When not at work his focus was always on his wife, family, perfectly manicured yards, spotless vehicles, and during basketball season the San Antonio Spurs. He always greeted any person or task with a smile on his face and a kind heart. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation was held on Sunday, June 29 from 5 -7 p.m. The funeral service was held on Monday, June 30 at 11 a.m. at Hurley Funeral Home and a private burial followed at Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio.
