Jo Etta Bowman, 81, of Bemidji, Minnesota, formerly of South Houston, died Thursday November 21, 2019 at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji.
Jo Etta was born April 24, 1938 in Houston. Jo Etta was the beloved daughter of William C. and Gertrude F. Whatley.
She attended Howard Payne University but obtained a “Mrs.” degree instead and began building a family. She married Delano (Del) Bowman on August 15, 1959 in South Houston.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She worked hard all her life alongside Del. They raised kids and cattle together and spent their lives as evangelists of the Christian faith. They traveled for many years spreading the gospel and sharing God’s message of love across the country. Although she was a city girl, Jo Etta embraced and cherished the cowboy & ranch lifestyle which she and Del enjoyed for most of their 53 years together.
Jo Etta is survived by her son, Cody and wife Pinja Bowman of Dallas; daughter, Tandy Bowman and wife Cathy Perry of Carmichael, California; sister, Barbara Wallace; sister-in-law, Patricia Bowman of Grand Junction, Colorado; three grandchildren, Samantha Hammonds, Marshall Bowman, Skylar Bowman; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Jo Etta was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Del.
Visitation will be held Friday, December 6 from 2-9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 4-6 p.m. Funeral service will be held Saturday, December 7 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Hurley Funeral Home, 118 W. Oaklawn Road in Pleasanton with interment to follow in Oak Rest Cemetery in Medina.
