JISD to begin school Aug. 17 at home

Jourdanton ISD issued the following statement regarding return to the 2020-2021 school year. Jourdanton ISD has been planning for our students to return to school for the 20-21 school year with the safety of all in mind. The situation regarding COVID 19 remains dynamic and ever changing. I appreciate your patience as we have been waiting and relying on local and state guidance to finalize our plans.

The first day of school for students has been moved back to Monday, August 17, 2020. This change will give teachers and staff additional days prior to the start of school to prepare for students working remotely as well as in person. Beginning August 17th, all students will start school at home. There will be a 3-week transition period to ensure the staff is prepared and trained in safety protocols required by the state and local authorities. During this 3-week transition period a small percentage of students may be in attendance on campus. Specifics on the students who may attend on the campus will be shared at a later date by the campus administration.

Beginning on Tuesday, September 8th , all parents who choose to send their students to school may do so, however, online instruction will continue for those students who remain at home. The district will also release a guidance plan prior to the start of school with protocols the district will have in place for cleaning, safety, transportation, instruction and any other items that may assist parents in their decision to send their children to school.

Students who participate in any extra-curricular activities may do so during the 3-week transition period between August 17th and September 4th. However, beginning on September 8, if your child chooses to participate in extra-curricular activities, he or she must be attending school in person. Please know that these plans and decisions may change as we get closer to the August 17th start date.
