JISD recognizes State UIL winners

Two JHS students were introduced at the Monday, JISD Board meeting who had done well at the State UIL Academic contests.

Kelly House, a senior, won second in Persuasive Speaking. Students competing in this category are given a topic and thirty minutes to write a sevenminute speech. Kelly will attend Texas Tech with a Dual Business degree, which encompasses General Business and Ag Business.

Sophomore Deniece Mueller received third in Prose Speaking delivering two stories and interpretations. Her two for competition were “I dream of Lillian,” about a young pregnant woman with breast cancer and “The Witness” about a young man who is convicted of murder who asks his younger sister to witness his execution.
