Jimmy R. House of Jourdanton, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at the age of 86. He was born on Wednesday, August 15, 1934, in San Antonio, to Jim and Stella (Childress) House. Jimmy was the third in line with his siblings which included: Virginia (House) Pawelek, William (Billy) House, Lloyd House and twins Arley House & Arline (House) Fischer.
Jimmy grew up learning how to build tanks, clear land and manage livestock from his dad who started as a conservation contractor in 1937. As the boys grew up, the business became known as J. L. House and Sons. After graduating from Charlotte High School, Jimmy was drafted into the U. S. Army and served proudly from 1957 to 1959. While on leave, his brother’s girlfriend set him up on a blind date with her cousin, Dorothy, who was visiting. By November 1957, Jimmy and Dorothy were married.
In 1959, Jimmy’s honorable discharge from the Army created the opportunity for him and his growing family to return to Charlotte and rejoin the family business which later evolved into House Construction with his son, James. Although working as a conservation contractor was a difficult career path, Jimmy enjoyed the outdoors. He took great pride in the work he did and knew that being a good steward of the land was important. He could recall as if it were yesterday every job he had worked on throughout South Texas. To relax, he loved taking his family to country dances, fishing, deer hunting and to check on and feed the small herd of cattle he periodically raised. He also loved going to a coffee shop, visiting family and friends, telling a good joke and playing cards or dominoes.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his loving wife, Dorothy (Valchar) House; his parents, Jim and Stella (Childress) House; sister and brother-inlaw, Virginia (House) and Pete Pawelek; sister, Arline (House) Fischer; and brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Maggie (Bronder) House.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Bettie (Valchar) House, and Arley and Sherry (Ramsey) House; and sisterin law, Linda Green. He is also survived by his children, Cheryl House, Vivien (House) Howe, and James and Regina (Marek) House. Jimmy was blessed with three granddaughters, Heather (Howe) Dunn (Vincent), Michelle and Kelly House; and step greatgrandsons, Corbin and Seth Dunn, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and their children.
