Jimmie Neal Duncan, age 80 of Jourdanton, Texas, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018. He was born November 24, 1937 in Llano.
Jimmie graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio in 1955. He then started his 35-year career with Southwestern Bell/AT&T. In September 1960 Jimmie signed up with the U.S. Air Force for six months of active duty training for Ready Reserves. For the next six years (while employed at Southwestern Bell) he spent one weekend each month with the USAF Reserves, preparing for possible unit call-up. In the meantime, his Southwestern Bell career continued, locating Jimmie and his family from San Antonio to Kingsville, to Houston, to Nederland, and back to Houston, where he retired in 1991. During those years, his favorite rest times were spent fishing, hunting, camping, and boating with his family. After retiring, he followed in his brother Les’ footsteps, and became a cattle ranch owner in Jourdanton, Texas. And, to his surprise, worked harder than he’d ever worked before. . . . loving every minute! No matter the work, Jimmie was always available for the Duncan siblings’ get-togethers. And what fun those times were. . . . so much laughter, so much love!
Jimmie is survived by his daughter, Leah Duncan of Castroville; sons, Neal Duncan and wife Val of Paso Robles, California and Leslie Duncan of Beaumont; sisters, Moray Murray and husband Gary of Aurora, Colorado and Nelda Jane McCullough and husband Jerry of Sierra Vista, Arizona. He is also survived by his grandson, Cameron Duncan and wife Reina; great grandchildren, Mia and Leah of Cleveland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Duncan and Wilma (Spinks) Duncan, and four siblings, Leslie Bob Duncan, Betty Smith, Jack Duncan and Charlotte Duncan.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Hurley Funeral Home in Pleasanton.
