The Jourdanton Indian Band had a very successful weekend. They attended the Buccaneer Days Music Festival in the beautiful Richardson Performing Arts Center on the campus of Del Mar College in Corpus Christi.

The Jourdanton Wind Symphony, under the direction of Babatunde Onibudo, earned a Division 1 Superior rating with their program of Third Suite by Jager, Sheltering Sky by Mackey, and Folk Dances by Shostakovich.

The Wind Symphony was also awarded trophies for Outstanding Performance of the Day, Best in Class for the AAAA, and the Overall Best Ensemble in the Festival.

Hannah Lindsay, flute and Kayli Beltran, piccolo were named as the festival’s outstanding soloists.

The Jourdanton Concert Band, under the direction of Mr. Ryan Lovell and Mr. Nicholas Flores, earned a Division 2 Excellent rating with their program of La Companera by Wiley, Concert Variations by Smith, and Steel by Standridge.

2015 marked the 72nd year for the Buccaneer Days Festival which provides a judged competition for school bands, orchestras, and choral groups. Founded in 1938, the festival draws crowds of over 100,000 to Corpus Christi for the festival, parades, concerts, and other events.

Following the festival, the Indian Marching Band participated in the Buccaneer Days Illuminated Night Parade.
