Stop by the Jourdanton Community Library on Thursday, Nov. 10 to meet local author Jeff S. Bray and support a great cause. Bray is teaming up with the Jourdanton ISD Food Locker to collect nonperishable food donations from 6-8 p.m. The library is located at 1101 Camp- bell Ave. in Jourdanton.

Bray will have his novels and children’s books available for purchase and signing.

“I used to be in the position many of these children are in,” said Bray. “I grew up in a single-parent home and was a latch-key kid. Many times, especially during the summer, food was scarce and my sister and I had to be inventive with our meals. It’s not that our mom was not caring. She was a wonderful parent, but could only do so much with two growing children at home. The JISD Food Locker is an amazing program that aids kids in having food to take home and for the holiday breaks.”

The first 25 people who donate to the JISD Food Locker will receive a free signed copy of “Elissa Learns Thankfulness.”

Bray’s books that will be available for purchase: all Elissa books are $10; “The Five Barred Gate” and “The Transference” are $30 for hardbound and $15 for paperback.

Donations requested are nonperishable, single serve items that are easily prepped and can be discreetly carried home in their backpack. Examples include single serve, microwaveable mac and cheese, beef stew, pot roast and potatoes or tuna packets. Other items are snack items such as granola bars, fruit cups (lunch box sized peaches, etc.), packs of popcorn or fruit cups.

Please note they must be shelf items. No refrigerated or frozen items will be accepted and no cans, please.
