JEANETTE RAMEY



 

 

Jeanette Louise Eckel Ramey was born on January 2, 1930 in Poth, Texas to Alfred William and Clara (Woellert) Eckel. Jeanette graduated from Poth High School in 1946 and attended the University of Texas in Austin from 1946 to 1949.

On June 18, 1949 she married her beloved husband of 66 years Edgar (Ed) Ramey. They had two sons: Randy and wife, Linda and Richard and wife, Rena. They also have four grandchildren: Kim Lutz and husband Mark; Kellie Cochran and husband Chad; Royce Ramey and wife, Aimee; and Russell Ramey and fiance’, Marie Mikkelson. Their great-grandchildren are Madison Marie Lutz, McKenzie Ann Lutz, Emersen Paige Cochran and Berklee Morgan Cochran.

Jeanette is preceded in death by her parents and brother, A.W. Eckel, Jr. and brother-in-law, Dr. Jerry J. Jaeckle. She is survived by her sister, Mary Rose Jaeckle and sister-in-law Gertrude Eckel.

Jeanette graduated from Incarnate Word College in 1955 and began a teaching career at Poth ISD that lasted from 1955 to 1985. She taught generations of students who remember her fondly.

Jeanette was a life-long member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth. There she was active in many ministries. She was a Catholic Daughter, an Altar Society member and a church organist. She also belonged to The Texas State Teacher’s Association, the Texas Retired Teacher’s Association, the Wilson County Retired Teacher’s Association, Hermann Sons, and her Canasta Club. She also volunteered at the Floresville Nursing Home for many years.

Due to vision loss because of macular degeneration and overall health conditions, she and Ed moved to Argent Court Assisted Living in Jourdanton. She was helped by special caregiver, Esmerelda De Hoyas.

Jeanette passed away on November 26, 2015.

Donations can be made in her name to the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Oblate Missions in San Antonio or a charity of your choice.

Viewing began at 5 p.m. Monday, November 30 at the Vinyard Funeral Home in Poth. The rosary was recited at 7 p.m. The funeral Mass was celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth at 11 a.m. on Tuesday. Viewing began at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. The entombment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Mausoleum.

Serving as pallbearers were Chad Cochran, Charles Eckel, Gerald Eckel, Ronnie Eckel, William Eckel, Al Kollodziej, Mark Lutz, Royce Ramey, and Russell Ramey.
