James Lawrence Root, age 72, of Pleasanton, passed away Monday, April 15, 2019 in Pleasanton. He was born Thursday, August 8, 1946 in San Antonio to Paul Franklin and Lucille Rose (Martinez) Root. James retired from the Texas Comptroller Office as a tax enforcement officer. He was a branch manager for Commercial Credit in West Monroe and Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Kerrville, as well as an insurance salesman in San Antonio. James was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Jourdanton, Knights of Columbus and choir. He was also a member of the Canary Islanders Descendants Association (direct descendant of Juan Curbelo, a founder of San Antonio). James graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1964 and St. Mary’s University in 1970. His greatest joy was Jennifer, in opera performance and life. Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting in his youth; he enjoyed opera and theatre and sci-fi movies. His laughter, jokes and puns will be missed. Jim loved Sharon everyday in every way for more than 45 years.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sharon Anne (Denny) Root; daughter, Jennifer Anne Root; brothers, Paul Richard Root, and Michael Gerard Root and wife Caren (Meek); sister-in-law, Juanita (Janie) Castillo Root; sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Victor and Mary Nell (Denny) De la Garza, and maternal aunt, Rita Martinez Conner.
James is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Russell (Jennifer), Patrick Root; Megan, Paisley, Casey Robinson; Robert (Bobby) Root Jr.; Teresa (Root) and Michael Swanson, Adriana and Johnny. Jason (Kayleigh) Meek, Thomas Oliver; Thomas (Amber) Meek); Tyler, Carter and Harper. Aaron (Jennifer) de la Garza, Ada Grace and Henry; Vanessa (Jason) de la Garza Kearns, Jake Smith; Kathleen (George) Van Osterom, Lily and George; Bryan (Chelsey) Denny and Baby John.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Franklin and Lucille Rose (Martinez) Root, and twin brother, Robert Thomas Root Sr.
Services will be conducted on Thursday, April 25 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Jourdanton, beginning with a rosary at 10 a.m. and mass to follow. A luncheon will be served at the Parish hall after mass.
