James Richard (Jimmy) Hill, San Antonio native and humble, generous, and compassionate Texan, died peacefully on April 17, 2018, two months before his 90th birthday. A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at St. John Lutheran Church, Jourdanton, Texas.
Jimmy Hill grew up in San Antonio, graduated from Hot Wells High School, and attended Brownsville Junior College on a football scholarship. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&I University, served in the United States Army, and earned his Master’s Degree from Southwest Texas College (now Texas State University.) He was a coach, teacher, high school principal, and superintendent in south Texas schools for over four decades, serving Schertz-Cibolo, Mason, Lytle, Poteet, and Jourdanton schools.
His wife of 43 years, Bernice “Nene” Satcher Hill, and his brothers Herbert Ross Hill and William Giles Hill preceded Jimmy in death. He is survived by his three daughters, Sandra Hill Schuelke of Houston, Susan Hill Hill (and husband Rick) of Fort Worth, Cynthia Hill Blizzard of Houston; his step-daughter Brooke Hill of San Antonio; and his nephew, David Ross Hill, of Brownsville. His eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren lovingly remember countless occasions for hunting, fishing, hayrides, and feeding the cows at “PaPa Jimmy’s.” Jimmy is also survived by his loyal lifetime friend and business partner, Tom Lowrie (wife Kate) with whom he “counted cows” until the day of his debilitating accident, March 26, 2018. Additionally, the family is grateful to friends who supported Jimmy in his last years, in and around his home and property: Pete Bautista, Frances Lopez, and Irene Leal.
Should friends desire, donations may be made in memory of Jimmy to the JISD Ag Booster Club, Jourdanton High School, 200 Zanderson Avenue, Jourdanton, TX 78026.
