James W. Moore was greeted by the Lord on Nov. 14, 2021, at the age of 83. He was born on July 9, 1938, in Frio County to Herbert and Ruby Dubose Moore.
He is survived by his daughter, Terri Lynne Whitaker, son-in-law, Keith, son, James Cory Moore, brother, Jack and wife Jerry and sisters, Ruby Mae and Ruth Marie. James had six grandchildren, Amy, Krystal, Kristy, Landon, Mandy and Becky and he had seven great-grandchildren, Hunter, Savannah, Cody, Seth, Kenzie, Cooper and Noah. These kids are his greatest legacy and what he valued most in life.
He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Doris. They were married 34 years, until her passing in1995. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Neal and Johnny.
James built a career at Longhorn Cement Company. He retired early to care for Doris.
Loving the outdoors, James was an avid hunter and fisherman. He never turned down a trip to Rockport. He was also happy to sneak in a domino game.
James was always there to help a neighbor fix a pipe, visit sick friends or offer moral support. He cared for a disabled neighbor daily for over a year and no one knew. Wrapped up in a single phrase, James was a man of God and it was apparent in the quiet way he lived his daily life.
A visitation was held on Sunday, Nov. 21, at Hurley Funeral Home, from 4-6 p.m., with a graveside service on Monday, Nov. 22, at Rutledge Cemetery in Poteet at 10 a.m.
